Never Been to North Dakota

music and lyrics by Mark Brut

I've been to New Orleans
Stayed up all night with a girl I adored
But right now I can't tell
If it's the ceiling or the floor

I've been to Shenandoah
Driven through the night to find the prize
As the sunrise silhouettes the farms
And the Virginia mountains are reborn

But I've never been to North Dakota

I've heard amazing stories
Driven far and wide for a little glory
Seen many things unfold
I've been left out in the cold

But I've never been to North Dakota
Though I hear it's out there somewhere
Maybe someday I'll find myself
On a road that leads me there

Across the badlands of interstate 94
I imagine crossing the Missouri river
Miles of snow and not a whole lot more
Try to get to Minot before the coming storm

Across the prairies of summer where the livestock roam
Drove off the indians and the buffalo
The rest of the country seems to forget you
Maybe Fargo will ease my soul

I've had a million dreams
There were some I burned with kerosene
Been many times around the block
Finding out the clock don't ever stop
I've watched a dying man
Eyes light up as I take his hand
That I'll take right to my grave
Inspiration in the purest way

But I've never been to North Dakota
Though I hear it's out there somewhere
Maybe someday I'll find myself
On a road that leads me there
On a road that leads me there
On a road that leads me there
